Is there a God or Creator?
We should be honest to ask this question and be sure of God’s existence before we go any further. Look around, and see all things that are made artificially by man. What is our response to it? When we see it, we ask who made it or whose it is. Why? It is because we believe without any trace of doubt that behind all human creative activities there is a creator. We know that the ownership follows like a shadow with the created thing. As examples,
A book has an author.
A car has a manufacturer.
A painting has the signature of an artist.
The list can go on………
All artificially made things have a creator.
Now take a look at the man:
A human heart pumps 1, 00,000 times a day without any efforts from his / her side.
The total length of human blood vessels would be enough to span around the earth through the equator.
The complex biochemical and physiological process that occurs in each of the billions or more cells in the body are very complex.
Can man come into existence without a Creator? Has he come into existence by some chance? If he has come by chance then why 26 English alphabets cannot form an article by itself? Until today we have not seen anything spontaneously evolving from the earth.
Therefore, we rightly conclude that there is a Creator behind the beautiful creation. Now let us see what scriptures say: The second aphorism of Vedanta sutra states:
Janmadyasya yatah. (V.S.1.1.)
janmadi – birth, etc (creation, sustenance, and dissolution); asys – of this (universe): yatah – that from Whom.
The translation is The Brahman, Absolute Truth or God is that from Whom originate the creation, sustenance, and dissolution of this universe. In other words, everything is created and sustained by God.
A beautiful and systematic description of creation is given in the Bible in Genesis chapters 1 and 2.
