Let us now come to the conclusion. We have to agree that there is only one Sovereign God. He is called as “YHWH” in Hebrew. This name has no vowels and has only consonants. In other words, the name of God cannot be pronounced. Jews while reading the THORA they use the word ADONAI instead of YHWH. It means My LORD.
Book of Job is the oldest manuscript in the Bible. We do not know what Job had called God in his language at that time. The Pentateuch, the first five books of Bible were written in a later time period and the name Yahweh came into existence from that time onwards. So we are not sure what Job had called God.
Now Sovereign God is one and Hindus also accepts one Supreme Lord, which is referred to Bhagawat Gita. Therefore the mystical Krsna in Bhagawat Gita could be taken as the Indian way of addressing the Sovereign God. Some eminent teachers of Bhagawat Gita believe that mystical Krsna is different from the historical Krishna. We need to accept this point. In different cultures, there could be the different name for the Sovereign God and that need to be understood and accepted rather than inflicting the names from other cultures. Scripturally also this is right. Paul, when he addressed the people in Athens, said, “For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD, Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you” (Acts 17:23). Whom, therefore, ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. In other words that were the starting point for Paul’s discussion. If Paul was addressing Krsna consciousness group he would have addressed them saying “I am going to talk to you about this mystical Krishna”. In other words, the name of God in one culture should be accepted as it is and it should be the starting point for the dialogue and presentation of the gospel. After all the communication of God’s love for man is important than all trivial things.
The next step we need to understand is whatever name we may use for the Sovereign God, we cannot imagine and create any images or idol of that God. The Sovereign God is a mystical one. In Bible, when Moses asked God his name, God replied his name as “I am” which in Hebrew means that “I will be what I am”. So we cannot predict in our mind God’s image. In Indian culture when we call the Sovereign God as Krsna we must know that it is a mystical (spirit form) Krsna and not the historical Krishna. In India, the name Param Atma Pitha could be a name that can be followed as there are no images made till today for this name.
With this view in mind when we study Gita and Bible we see that both are complementary to each other. Krsna showed certain truths in Bhagawat Gita and the real fulfillment of them has happened with Jesus Christ. As Sadhu Sunder Singh had said, “Hinduism dug the channel and Jesus Christ filled it with water.” Perhaps that is why Acharya D. P.Titus tells,”Bhagawat Gita” opens the door for gospel” 11.
The practical outcome of this study is that those who practice Sanadhana dharma in this country must see God as mystical Krsna and he has sent his son Jesus Christ to pay the price of man’s sin. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, one is reconciled with God, the Supreme Lord or Krsna. Those who accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour can remain in their community and live with their fellowmen. I recommend no conversion and change of religion. In fact, India is the only country where the name of people got mixed up with religion and formed Hinduism. The actual religion’s name was Sanadhana dharma. The original meaning of Hindu is people living on the other side of river Indus. Therefore those who accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour may remain as “Christu Bhakt Hindus”, if they are particular about an identity. In fact, there is a proposal to set up Christu Bhakt temples for the Christu Bhakt Hindus under some Hindu trusts. Here the Christu Bhakts will come to worship and learn the scriptures. They may also get baptized if they are convinced about it but they will remain coherent with their original community. Home satsangs are held to learn the truths from Bhagawat Gita 12 and Bible 13. The time has come to learn the truth from Vedanta and Bible and to have an identity of our own. Some cultural practices may be used for communicating the gospel. For example, a red “bindu” on the forehead of a Christu Bhakt Hindu can declare that he is saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. Similarly, tying of “Raksha bandan” can declare that God’s word is the shield to protect a Christu Bhakt. Thus cultural practices also could be used to communicate God’s love.

The man has a soul and it spreads all over his body, according to Bhagawat Gita 2:17. It is avyayasya – meaning imperishable. We know that when the soul departs from a body, the mortal remains have no importance. The charisma and personality of individuals are the manifestations of the soul. In the Indian thoughts, the jeevatma of the individual is part of the Param Atma (Super Soul). It is eternal because it comes from an eternal God. For this reason, Jesus Christ said, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mathew 16:26).
In our discussion, we learned that we have to surrender to God (Param Atma Pitha). Following is a prayer you can use for committing your life to God.
“Paran Atma Pitha, you have been called by many names by people. I want to address you as Param Atma Pitha because I acknowledge that my soul has come from you and I am a jeevatma.
Param Atma Pitha, I acknowledge that you are mystical, holy and Judge. I am a sinful man because I am under the influence of the evil forces and I am separated from you.
I truly believe that you have paid the price of my sin by sending your son Jesus Christ into this world and shedding his blood on the cross for me. I accept his ‘yaga’ as my own. Jesus Christ – I thank you for paying the price for my sin. Param Atma Pitha, forgive my sins and shortcomings. Accept me as I am.
I surrender my body to you, Stay with me, Let my body be your temple. Let your Pavitra Atma guide and direct all my thoughts and actions. Use my hands, legs and my whole being to fulfill your purpose in and through me. After my work in this world is done, take me to your eternal abode to live with you forever.
In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray.
Amen”.
